Funding Sources
New Beginnings Bluegrass Inc. operates solely on grant funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Bluegrass Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board, Inc. (Audited Financial Statements are available upon request.)

How We Got Started
New Beginnings Bluegrass Inc. was formed in 1997 by a group of concerned family members worried about the lack of safe, affordable housing and quality support services in Fayette County for people with mental illness.

In an effort to make these needs known, the newly formed board of directors of New Beginnings Bluegrass Inc., which includes mental health professionals, began a campaign to educate the public and lawmakers about the serious needs of those with mental illness and to offer solutions to address these needs. It was the board's persistence that eventually led to an allocation of $1 million from Kentucky's General Fund in 1998. These funds were then used to purchase residential housing in Fayette County for people diagnosed with mental illness. Extra grant monies were obtained to provide staffing and support services for the residents.
